Valerian root tincture – a herbal extract and food supplement made from valerian roots.
Valerian has traditionally been used in folk herbal tradition as a calming evening herb.
We dig the valerian roots in autumn from clean nature, which means the product is handmade: we gather, clean and chop the roots and then steep them in organic spirit produced in Estonia. Alcohol is the solvent and extraction medium that draws the essence out of the plant in the most natural way. All our tinctures are organic and handmade.
Estonian valerian has been measured to contain some of the highest levels in the world of valerianol, bornyl acetate and valeranone in its essential oil. Pure and potent!
Valerian contains iridoids, flavonoids, essential oil (including valerianol), valerenic acid and other compounds. Estonian plants contain up to 17% valerianol!
Traditional use:
- A traditional evening herb for winding down before bed
- Traditionally used during busy, hectic periods of life
Valerian has been used for centuries in folk tradition.
Use:
As a tincture, in tea blends or as an infusion.
Internally: 1–7 ml half an hour before going to bed. If you have no previous experience, start with smaller amounts – about 20 drops (1 dropperful), i.e. one dose. The effect may not appear immediately; it is very individual and depends on lifestyle, digestion, psychological characteristics, etc.
With valerian, the effect may take time and for some people appears only after 2 weeks of use.
Use as needed; avoid using for more than a month in a row. When taking, avoid contact between the dropper and the mucous membranes of the mouth and tongue! Take the product so that the dropper does not touch the mouth when dropping, or drop onto a spoon.
Daily dose (1–7 doses): 0.5–7 ml of valerian root tincture.
Ingredients: organic ethanol (certified), common valerian root (Valeriana officinalis), water.
Tinctures can also be given to children by diluting a few drops (usually the child’s age + 1) in very warm water, which allows the alcohol to evaporate.
NB! Contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity to valerian. In case of side effects (e.g. nausea, stomach cramps), drink water and stop using the product; if the symptoms do not subside, consult a doctor. Use with caution during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Storage: Keep in a dry, cool, dark place away from direct sunlight and out of reach of children. Use within 6 months of first opening. Make sure the cap is tightly closed.
For hundreds of years, pure alcohol has been the medium that draws the essence of a plant into the bottle. We make our tinctures with Estonian organic grain ethanol, pure water and native plants we pick by hand.
Larger quantities than the 50 ml bottle are also available – please send us an e-mail.
