Purasana Ashwagandha Powder 100 g, organic

Ashwagandha is one of the best-known Rasayana (rejuvenating) herbs in Ayurveda.

Just as ginseng is known in Chinese tradition, the long brown roots of ashwagandha have played a central role in India’s traditional herbal practice for thousands of years.

The plant grows as a shrub mainly in India and Nepal; its flowers are small and green, and its ripe fruit is reddish-orange, very similar to the familiar physalis (Physalis).

It is one of the few calming adaptogenic plants and has traditionally been used:

• to increase the feeling of well-being,
• to improve sleep quality, and
• to balance stress levels.

The Latin species name somnifera literally means “sleep-inducing”, but the name ashwagandha comes from Sanskrit and is a combination of the words “ashva”, meaning horse, and “gandha”, meaning smell.

Ashwagandha root has a strong aroma that has been described as horse-like.

Ashwagandha is a traditional herb that has been used for centuries in Ayurveda to help balance body and mind.
