The FAIR SQUARED Period Cup is soft and made of Fair Trade natural rubber. It can be used throughout your period, whether your flow is light or heavy. It gives you longer protection, as the cup can hold more than three times as much menstrual fluid as a regular tampon. The Period Cup is reusable, easy to clean with water, and once you know how to insert it correctly, you won’t feel it. Unlike menstrual cups made of silicone or plastic, the Period Cup is an environmentally friendly hygiene product. Made from FSC® 100% certified fair trade latex from Sri Lanka.
The menstrual cup contains no bleaching agents, fragrances or absorbent substances. It does not affect your vaginal environment and has not been associated with toxic shock syndrome. The surface of the cup is smooth, so it does not disturb the natural cleansing and protective functions of the vaginal mucosa. The cup does not absorb the body’s natural protective fluids and does not shed fibres that could stick to the vaginal walls.
How easy is it to use a menstrual cup?
When inserted correctly, the cup is so comfortable that you can almost forget it’s there. Of course, insertion takes some practice at first, but once you’ve got the hang of it, it is amazingly comfortable and easy. The cup should be emptied, rinsed or wiped and reinserted every 8–12 hours, depending on how heavy your flow is. Menstrual blood does not leak out of the cup, and the whole process is clean and comfortable. The menstrual cup can be used safely overnight as well as during sports, swimming and travel.
What benefits have women noticed when using a menstrual cup?
Allergies:
Allergens in hygiene products include bleaching agents, fragrances and absorbent substances. A menstrual cup offers an ideal alternative to products containing such allergens. Please note that this cup is made of natural rubber latex.
A more natural intimate environment:
Both sanitary pads and tampons create an unnaturally warm and moist environment in and around the vagina. In addition, the fibrous surface of pads and tampons can encourage bacterial growth, whereas the smooth surface of the menstrual cup does not.
Measuring menstrual flow:
Since the cup collects the blood, you can accurately estimate how much blood you lose – useful information to share with your doctor if needed.
A more positive period experience:
In subtle ways, the advertising industry and the use of disposable menstrual products make women feel that menstruation is an inconvenience – and even that our monthly bleeding is somehow unclean, undesirable or unacceptable. Understanding the remarkable functions of the female body better helps us appreciate our monthly cycle as a natural, healthy and life-giving rhythm. When we understand how naturally wise and beautiful the processes in our body are, we no longer have to see menstruation as a nuisance. Such a change of attitude can increase menstrual well-being.
Many women also report that after switching from disposable products to a menstrual cup, their period feels more comfortable.
Toxic shock syndrome (TSS):
Menstrual cups have been used since the 1930s and have never been associated with toxic shock syndrome. The smooth surface of the cup helps prevent bacterial growth. Toxic shock syndrome has been associated with the high absorbency and prolonged use of tampons. As a precaution, however, you should be aware that symptoms of toxic shock syndrome may include a sudden high fever, vomiting, diarrhoea, dizziness, fainting or a rash resembling sunburn. If you experience any of these symptoms during your period, remove the menstrual cup and contact a doctor immediately. If you have had toxic shock syndrome before, consult your doctor before starting to use a menstrual cup.
The more women use menstrual cups, the fewer tampons float in the sea!
