What does bioactive mean?
A bioactive substance is immediately ready to enter the network of biochemical transformations, i.e. metabolism, which is the basis of life. Inactive vitamins must first be converted into their active form in the cell, whereas a bioactive vitamin is already in coenzyme form and requires no further reactions in the cell.
B vitamins perform many different and important functions in the body:
- Thiamine (vitamin B1) contributes to the normal function of the heart.
- Riboflavin (vitamin B2) contributes to the maintenance of normal vision and the protection of cells from oxidative stress.
- Niacin (vitamin B3) contributes to normal energy-yielding metabolism and the reduction of tiredness and fatigue.
- Pantothenic acid (B5) contributes to normal synthesis and metabolism of steroid hormones, vitamin D and some neurotransmitters.
- Vitamin B6 contributes to normal psychological function, the normal function of the immune system and the reduction of tiredness and fatigue.
- Biotin (vitamin B7) contributes to the maintenance of normal hair, skin and mucous membranes.
- Folate (vitamin B9) has a role in the process of cell division and contributes to normal amino acid synthesis and normal blood formation.
